About the Winn Family

Coming to a site and finding a total stranger asking for money must invoke a variety of emotions. It certainly would for me if I were coming here out of my own curiousity. This page is simply going to give you some idea of who we are as a family and how we've tried to manage life since December of 2001.

It would be best to start with an explanation of who I am, what I do and why I'm now investing time in this website. My name is Rex Winn and I am the father of Grant, Katie and Paige Winn. Grant is my oldest son at 6 years of age, Katie is now 5 and half and Paige just recently rounded the corner of being 2 years old. In December of 2001 I was a Software Engineer for Micron Technology, Inc. here in Boise, Idaho. At the time Micron was the worlds leading DRAM manufacturer and we had plenty of work to do in maintaining that position. My job was to participate in writing the backlog and inventory management system that Micron used to manage it's parts around the world. I enjoyed my work and enjoyed being a 'micronaught' during that time. In February of 2003 Micron laid me and 1300+ other technology workers off in one of their largest layoffs in company history. I had some tough choices and the best option at the time was to try and finish my degree in Computer Science from Boise State University. I embarked upon this task for about 3 semesters before realizing my family was starving and things were getting really bad. So I formed my own company Code-frog System Architects, Inc. here in Boise, Idaho back in April of 2004. I've worked for myself since then and you can visit my site to learn more about what I do. In that time I've also become an MVP for Iron Speed, Inc. makers of a truly fantastic product here in the U.S. and used heavily by a variety of very well known companies.

My wife's name is Deanna and since Katie was born she's been a stay at home mom for obvious reasons. Yes, we did try having her work but that got very complex as it required having a registered nurse care for Katie, awkward work schedules and it quickly became more expensive for her to work than to stay at home. Since that time she has tried a few home operated businesses but the demands of caring for Katie and making sure my wife's work didn't interfere with my company made it necessary for her to focus on being a mom. I might add that on most days she probably puts in longer hours than I do and that's a nod to mom's everywhere if they work or stay at home.

We are a very dynamic family that has learned to cope with a lot of change and make the most out of things. We probably get more excited about microwave popcorn than most and we certainly enjoy sitting outside and just relaxing as our children discover the world around them in our back yard. Presently we are hibernating. Summer is in full swing, our children are out of school and we are just trying to slow things down a bit and get orientation for our plans for this fall which will be here soon enough. This fall my son will start first grade, Katie will begin kindergarten and Paige will get drug along for the ride and to provide moral support of course.
